Dumbest Smart Guy of the Day
An article at The Federalist today by ‘New York Correspondent’ David Marcus, tees off on Ocasio-Cortez’s wine-and-IKEA fueled rant about climate change and the original sin of conservative grandparents. He also makes the following detour postulating a serious comparison between a 29-year-old accidental congresswoman and the President of the United States:
“The inescapable political comparison to make to Ocasio-Cortez has always been Donald Trump. Since her recent rise to prominence, many observers, myself included, have pointed this out. It is clearest in the penchant both have for unfiltered, off-the-cuff internet postings, often tinged with anger. In addition, both frame things as dire emergencies that we have no choice but to address with their preferred policy positions. Much like Trump, AOC appears to be her own communications team. This can be a good thing, but also comes with pitfalls.
“For more than two years, Republicans have shuddered to open Twitter for fear of what the president might have tweeted about. Entire news cycles or even congressional negotiations can be scuttled with 280 characters. Now Democrats are experiencing a similar kind of fear. For reasons that are not yet entirely fathomable, Ocasio-Cortez, like Trump, has become the most prominent and dynamic voice of her party. But it’s a voice the party can’t control.
"There is one key difference between Ocasio-Cortez and Trump. Trump has been a celebrity for nearly half a century. AOC has been a celebrity for a bit more than six months. Fame and adoration, as much as many people seek them, can be dangerous things. They can alter the mind and one’s perception of oneself. Many who are thrust into such a situation have a great deal of trouble dealing with it.”
Inescapable political comparison to Trump. Many observers, “myself included,” have pointed this out. Republicans have shuddered to open a Twitter for fear of... the president’s [tweets]. Entire news cycles and congressional negotiations can be scuttled with 280 characters. One key difference between them...
One difference. Right. This is the same order of idiotic apples-to-oranges comparison Marcus is ridiculing in AOC. I can’t believe any conservative or Republican is linking this numbskull Manhattan snob post, unless the end of the Mueller investigation has now opened the door to all the pent up contempt the eastern coastal elites have always felt forTrump. They’ve breathed a sigh of relief and can now return to their pre-election air of superior tolerance for the awkward bad boy from Queens that sneaked his nose under the elitist tent. I’m calling shenanigans on the whole lot of renascent twits who think it’s time to unload their Patrician snark on us anew. Marcus is a Manhattan boy, a theater boy, a boy who has written for the New York Times, City Journal, the New York Theater Review, and National Review. He’s been an actor in a Kennedy Center production, as well as Bat Acting Company and the Flea Theater. He presently runs a theatrical troupe called Blue Box World. What, we might ask, were his articles for NYT and NR about? Learned analyses of Trump’s trade and foreign policies? Or word soufflés about the charming longevity of The Fantasticks?
Regardless, I very much doubt the parties in Marcus’s social circle are less rowdy, ribald, and irreverent than a typical Trump tweet. While Ocasio-Cortez is feeling sorry for herself and getting a little bit sloshed in her apartment because people have dared to criticize her, the President has just completed three straight years of determined efforts to drive him from office. During that time he has accomplished more for the American people than AOC or David Marcus will in a lifetime.
Any FBer or Pundit out there who approvingly links this little piece of crap by a precious artiste of etiquette named Marcus should be ashamed of himself. Or herself. Enough said.
