Lifestyles of the Rich and Referees

Image
Yeah, the signature host is no longer with us. But the stories  are continuing, no more so than in the wide world of sports. Time to look into a totally unexamined phenomenon. The odd prosperity of field officials in the professional ranks of those in charge of college and professional games in football, basketball, and sometimes baseball. A TV show would be good. Here’s an interesting video… The buyer? A 15-yr, $28,000/yr Big 10 refereee who famously  called a controversial pass  interference penalty  at a critical  juncture in the Big House. Not  accusing, just saying… Oh screw it. If millions of fans don’t care, why should I? I haven’t watched a single complete game of football or basketball in a couple years. I intend to continue with that practice.

The Artificial Intelligence Hoax

Image
There is a movement underway to convince you that Artificial Intelligence is a massive, accelerating threat to your freedom and our way of life. The ones who are most alarmed are political commentators and technology experts on the right. The political commentators are ignorant of the real technology issues involved, and the technology experts are so isolated in a silo of delusion that they are the last people we should look to for the real nature of the threat. Yes, there is a threat. But it’s not Artificial Intelligence overtaking human autonomy. It’s Artificial Dementia overtaking our systems infrastructure.  What? Yes. What purports to be Artificial Intelligence is in fact the opposite. You’re already experiencing this phenomenon, whether you choose to recognize it or not. Your social networks are a vivid case in point. Haven’t you noticed that every new release of device operating systems, network-level applications, and so-called task-level productivity aids only make things wors

Manuscript Submission, The Boomer Bible

Image
Cover of U.K. Edition, 1991 Manuscript Submission, The Boomer Bible   It is time to republish The Boomer Bible. The book is more relevant to the body politic now than it was even when it was first published. Your instructions call for complete manuscript submission. Here that is, in three forms, plus a depth backgrounder: The Boomer Bible  (Full screen view available, May load slowly) http://TheBoomerBible.com   (Three testaments including LIVE Intercolumn Reference) The Boomer Bible  (physical hard copy; Amazon sells them as they periodically acquire them) The Boomer Bible Website  (The original archived background site, not originated by the author but by students of the book) The Boomer Bible is officially out of print, no longer offered for sale by the original publisher, who offered the book for nearly 30 years, selling out the the original 88,000-copy print run before withdrawing the title. The rights have therefore reverted to me, the author. The important point is that The Bo

I don’t ask for help much, but…

UPDATE, MAY 2, 2023: Lots of faithful readers. Contributors to the tip jar? Zip, zero, zilch. Thanks, everyone. This is NOT an appeal for money but specific information. I have been blackballed from American Publishing since 1993 at least because of my unacceptable political views and satirical content. For that reason, I do not submit, have not submitted, my books for consideration to publishers who pay advances, have distribution channels, and promote sales.  The tips I need are names, addresses, and email contact information for individual persons — companies, names, titles, email addresses — within the book publishing world, which has a small conservative wing, to which I can send the following as a PDF Email Attachment. Your tips can be sent to me via the Facebook Messenger app. They will be appreciated. Typically, the publishing industry is a closed affair these days. Companies and agents do not answer their phones and do not call back, submissions are expected to be of complet

Why is Trump playing golf when he should be saving us?

Image
Why is Donald Trump playing golf, peddling “baseball card”-type keepsakes, and endorsing Kevin McCarthy for Speaker of the House? Fair questions. I’ve addressed this in other posts without specific reference to Trump, but here’s a take I’m not seeing from the various luminaries inside or outside the MAGA ranks. Time therefore to say what nobody else seems to want to say.  Trump, whose impulse is always to action, is keeping a low profile to make a point. Several points in fact, all of them important. The expected (hoped for) Red Wave did not happen. Cheating and stolen elections? Yes. Nothing new there. But it’s hardly the whole story. Thus explaining why so many, even Trump intimates and allies are tempted to blame him for losing a golden opportunity. Which is nonsense on the face of it. He did what Trump does. He fought for votes, fought hard, this time from a position of no official authority whatever.  Blaming him for the losses is far more interesting than his relative silence sin

Twelve Pipers Piping

Image
Roddy Piper in ‘They Live’ (1988) Back in 2018, I celebrated the Christmas season with a satirical treatment of the Twelve Days of Christmas . The last day of Christmas is January 5th. It was on that day that I published this post at my website Instapunk Rules and on Facebook as well. Take a minute to view the entire original post here . Today is January 5th, as it was in that post. As it was exactly two years later in 2021, when the next day would make January 6th a date heard round the world. Which makes the coincidence of the 2019 post, if it is that, seem comically prophetic. People who have seen the movie know that Roddy Piper does finally storm the headquarters of the invading aliens to “chew bubblegum and kick ass.” And he loses, dying in the process. End of story? Not quite. Yesterday it was Facebook’s Memories algorithm that added a further touch of irony. I was notified by FB of my 2019 post on January 4th about “Eleven Drummers Drumming.” The notification included a working
