Why Believe in God — Part 2

They called, they  call  her still, a philosopher.  “Alone” by Edgar Allan Poe From childhood’s hour I have not been  As others were—I have not seen  As others saw—I could not bring  My passions from a common spring—  From the same source I have not taken  My sorrow—I could not awaken  My heart to joy at the same tone—  And all I lov’d— I  lov’d alone—  Then —in my childhood—in the dawn  Of a most stormy life—was drawn  From ev’ry depth of good and ill  The mystery which binds me still—  From the torrent, or the fountain—  From the red cliff of the mountain—  From the sun that ’round me roll’d  In its autumn tint of gold—  From the lightning in the sky  As it pass’d me flying by—  From the thunder, and the storm—  And the cloud that took the form  (When the rest of Heaven was blue)  Of a demon in my view— It was Poe who was the philosopher. A genuine mystic. Rand was just a bright but dreary didact.  Most importantly, she was an atheist, hammered into unbelief by the Soviet system sh

The Algonquin Round Table

Image
I went there in my twenties. Had to see the place where the elite writers gathered and drank so awfully together. I was drinking awfully in those days too. It was smaller than I expected, darker, dimmer. I was the only one there. Lonely, dark, and no one home. Do any of you know about the Roundtable ? “The group first gathered in the Algonquin's Pergola Room (later called the Oak Room) at a long rectangular table. As they increased in number, Algonquin manager Frank Case moved them to the Rose Room and a round table.[2] Initially the group called itself "The Board" and the luncheons "Board meetings". After being assigned a waiter named Luigi, the group re-christened itself "Luigi Board". Finally they became "The Vicious Circle" although "The Round Table" gained wide currency after a caricature by cartoonist Edmund Duffy of the  Brooklyn Eagle portrayed the group sitting at a round table and wearing armor.[3]... “In addition to the d

Why Believe in God?

Guessing what I’m about to do you could call preaching. But I’m a special case, maybe an emblematic one. Why you should probably listen. I’ll start with a few non-sequiturs. All focused on a point, seeming random only because the origins of the various foci differ, not their target. Took up the game of pool when I was in my early teens. Got good at it. I was an outstanding shot maker. Long shots, banks, English, cue ball antics, I was good. Played and often won. Never for money. Just love of the game. In my early fifties, a black guy I’d just met in a seedy hometown bar took pity on me and corrected the one huge hole in my game. I could never sink anything on the break. He showed me what I was doing wrong and never beat me again. I gave up playing pool not long after that. Gave up drinking in my mid-twenties. I had overdone and needed to save my soul from ruin. Stone cold sober for a dozen years of increasingly cold achievement. A German devil(?) on a plane cracked my sobriety and pl

Life goes on. Lewis Hamilton is a Knight of the Realm. And a Scottish Deerhound is Best in Show

National Dog Show A 3-year-old  Scottish deerhound  named Claire won the National Dog Show 2020 Thursday — becoming the first of her breed ever to fetch the coveted title. The smiley pooch won the top accolade with her owner, Angela Lloyd, at her side, beating out seven finalists and a total of 538 entries. Dog lovers quickly took to social media to cheer the tall, scraggly-haired underdog... The host of the annual Thanksgiving day competition, Kennel Club of Philadelphia President Wayne Ferguson, said it’s the first time in the show’s 135-year history that the breed emerged as a star. “Scottish deerhounds are not usually in the best-in-show limelight,” Ferguson told NJ Advance Media, adding that they’re “one of the oldest breeds that the American Kennel Club recognized.” But despite being the first of her breed to win best-in-show at the National Dog Show, Claire does hail from a long line of champions. Her grandmother, Hickory, won best-in-show at the Westminster Kennel Club dog sh

Death of the Republic

Image
Marc Antony:  “ Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears; “I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him. The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones; So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus Hath told you Caesar was ambitious: If it were so, it was a grievous fault, And grievously hath Caesar answer’d it. Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest– For Brutus is an honourable man; So are they all, all honourable men– Come I to speak in Caesar’s funeral. He was my friend, faithful and just to me: But Brutus says he was ambitious; And Brutus is an honourable man.”     [Worth noting, Gaius Julius Caesar was not an emperor; the successors who fought for absolute power and took his name as a title were emperors and brought about the death of the several hundred years of Roman Republic.]      The American Republic is now at an end. We had a good run. He will be forced to concede, because Trump will not declare martial law. He will not run again in 202

I Predicted This Horrifying Mess 20 Years Ago

Not going to play with you. Buy this book . I laid it all out. I have a long record of predicting political events and crises with dead accuracy. Look for the article, the first in the book, titled “What’s Going On With This Crazy Election?” It was concerning the 2000 Bush-Gore fiasco. I was right about what was going on then and what it portended about the domestic terror organization called the Democrat Party. I deserve to be paid for my insights, because nobody has ever learned anything from my insights before. I’m still right about what is happening at this very moment. And I don’t care at all about how surprised and dismayed and bewildered you all are. I’ve been here the whole time, predicting everything that happens. Pay me for this book and then we’ll talk.

I volunteer to stand before the Reich Commission

Image
R. F. Laird of Yardarm University “University of California-Berkeley professor and former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich proposed the radical idea for a post-election commission to censor speech and name and shame every public figure who supported President Donald Trump’s rise to power. He wrote on Twitter over the weekend that “when this nightmare” — or Trump’s presidency — “is over, we need a Truth and Reconciliation Commission. It would erase Trump’s lies, comfort those who have been harmed by his hatefulness, and name every official, politician, executive, and media mogul whose greed and cowardice enabled this catastrophe.” In response to the tweet, several Twitter followers agreed and even raised the stakes of his proposal. “I am thinking more of using the postwar Nuremberg Trials as a template,” one Twitter user wrote, speculating that criminal trials should be in order. “Felonies were committed as were treasonous behaviors. The guilty should be arrested, tried, convicted and f

Seventh Heaven for Hamilton

Image
Lewis Hamilton wins Seventh World Championship at Formula 1 Grand Prix in Turkey: A stunning drive from Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton in the Turkish Grand Prix gave him his 10th victory of the season – and, more crucially, saw him claim the seventh drivers’ title of his career, to equal the record of Michael Schumacher, as Racing Point’s Sergio Perez and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel completed the podium after a thrilling race in Istanbul. Hamilton had started the race in sixth, risen to third midway through the first lap and then dropped back to sixth by the end of Lap 1 after an error at Turn 9. But a decision to change his intermediate tyres just once saw Hamilton drive a masterful race to claim victory by over 25 seconds from Perez. The win alone was enough to claim championship #7, but it was even more assured after a disastrous race for Valtteri Bottas - the only man who could have stopped Hamilton winning the title today - who spun six times en route to a P14 finish.

To Whom It May Concern...

A helpful precursor to this post is called  The Time Has Come, the Walrus Said . These are first steps only. What everyone can do, beginning on Inauguration Day, regardless of who wins. With one exception, that being getting yourselves onto the Darknet . This will be a vital capability for everyone during the next two years, because win or lose, the War will continue and grow more ferocious every day. You won’t need Darknet for most of the first steps, unless you want to take the opportunity to start establishing new lines of communication with old allies or start building your own action cells in support of the strategy called... Things to do first. Cancel all your newspaper subscriptions, regardless of how much of a habit they have been for you. That is all they are. There is no fact base there, no information. Journalism is stone cold dead. In their place, subscribe to a local newspaper. These also take their cue from the NYT. You won’t miss the official Talking Points if you believ

The Time Has Come, the Walrus Said...

The Doomsday Clock The time has definitely come to consider aggressive strategies for dealing with a stolen election. I have some ideas about that, which I will share with you now. Never thought it would, but my mind has turned finally back to Atlas Shrugged, the monumental work by Ayn Rand which described the ultimate labor action of the truly capable and productive people of the nation, namely the strike to end all strikes, as all that capability and productivity are slowly withdrawn from the economy. Except that there’s no reason to be particularly gradual about the withdrawal. It doesn’t require a Hole-in-the-Wall hideout in Colorado. It can be done fairly quickly, in place, as long as enough people participate. It consists of two complementary strategies, which are Passive Resistance and Active Resistance, both nonviolent but both together representing an assault on the most powerful institutions in the nation, as well as pervasive local assaults on similarly entrenched enemies
