A Look Back at Pioneering Protests against “The Wall”

Now that the Supreme Court has ruled that it is the Executive Branch which enforces the laws of the land, not the Judicial Branch, the deportations the 2024 electorate voted for can proceed with fewer skirmishes between paper airplanes. The protests in individual locations will occur in their customary way, with sticks and rocks and Molotov cocktails and looting and arson. You know. In the most popular liberal way.

In light of today’s events I went looking for my own coverage of the earliest liberal protests against the proposal to build a Wall along the entire southern border to prevent illegals from mounting some kind of absurd mass invasion. This was way back in 2006, when Bush was President and proposing something called Comprehensive Immigration Reform, which usually means lots of amnesties and thousands more illegals. When talk about a Wall got serious for the first time. 

Naturally, the liberals immediately identified this as a quasi-Nazi insurrectionist-type movement to enforce laws no loyal Democrat ever took at more than face value and they streamed into the streets to prevent the end of Democracy as they knew it.

I, personally, took the protest movement as a major topic worthy of coverage in my own hometown and  sallied out on the appointed day to monitor the bravely egalitarian demonstration of solidarity with foreign-born seekers of American homes, cars, healthcare, and welfare benefits.

My hometown isn’t as big as most, but sure enough, we had activist action. Here was my report, reproduced exactly as I published it at Instapunk almost 20 years ago…

You know what they say. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Of course that was before Trump came along and convinced all the Democrats they wanted their nation overrun by everyone who could get here. Still not sure how he did that, but that would be their job, not mine.

An Old Forgotten Story Back in the News

The Best Movie of the 21st Century?

The IMDb List A month or so ago I heard an episode of the Cluck and Buck Radio Show (i.e., Clay Travis/Buck Sexton) discussing the lists of best 21st Century movies that have been popping up now that we’ve got a quarter of the new century under our belts. They weren’t happy with the names they were hearing. After a lot of what passes for manly banter between them they settled on The Dark Knight Rises as their pick for Number 1. It’s a better choice, I agree, than most of the titles on the list above, but the whole process of selection here seems sad. Even pitiful. I’ve seen exactly eight of the 21 movies shown here, and the only one I’d consider a candidate for the top spot is Lord of the Rings . I liked Lost in Translation’ s   inclusion   on the list as well. That’s about it.   Saw a short but evocative post from Michael Smith on Facebook yesterday that struck an immediate chord with me:   It struck chords with a lot of people in fact. We’d already been through this once with all the guiltiest talking heads in the media interviewing all the accomplices in the political class about how the fact of Joe Biden’s serious dementia could have been covered up so thoroughly. Nauseating to watch. Now we have a similar but not quite identical phenomenon of the complicit talking heads in the huge set of hoaxes designed to destroy the Trump presidency inviting some of of the prime perpetrators on to deny the truth of Tulsi Gabbard’s charges with a straight face.   Make America Moral Again (Rockies caps are available super-cheap about now..) Epstein is the trigger. Mike Pence is the man to pull it. Time is of the essence here. Opportunities like this must be seized quickly or they go away just as quickly.
