The List of Celebrities Who Support ‘Child Gender Affirming’

I’m not reproducing the long sententious letter all these people signed. (You can read it here if you want…) I’m listing the names so everyone can see them. I’m also asking some questions about the list, which will probably also occur to people who try to read all the names in order. But first, here’s the close of the letter and The List…

I can hear some of you out there asking, “What’s with the Italics?” Simple. Those were the names I recognized as celebrities or might-be celebrities I should try to verify. Some sneaked in by the skin of their teeth at IMDB, a handful of independent productions or reality show fare in which they appeared as themselves. I also recognized some last names I didn’t bother with. If I had heard of them, it was because they were related to other famous people — Bergdorf, Getty, Rahal, Dahl, Willis-Bieber (?), and that’s not celebrity, it’s guilt by association. What the names best known to me had in common was that they are almost all past the peak of their careers and have been known lefties throughout. What was surprising, in this context, were the annoyingly tough-taking names that weren’t there — Sarah Silverman, Rosie O’Donnell, Alec Baldwin, Charlize Theron, Robert DeNiro, Sean Penn, Mark Ruffalo, Jeff Daniels, Megan Rapinoe, Madonna, Cher, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Lady Gaga, Lizzo, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Admiral Levine, Larry David, Margaret Cho, Janeane Garofalo, Kathy Griffin, etc, etc. Plus… ZERO in the way of bona fide A-list movie stars. Overall, an A to Z bust, bracketed by a retired soccer star (Abby) and a has-been TV star (Zoey) with remarkably little in between.

Upshot? This is not an imposing list. Unless it’s imposing by way of being an imposition on the victims of mass media maneuvering for click bait. More than anything else, it’s yet another hoax by a would-be group of victims who want to seem more numerous and influential than they really are. There is no stature here.

My favorite proof of that, having turned the list from a list to a paragraph, was the chore of having to read and deal with each name in order. Just looking at the names in a column it’s easy to miss the fact that they do not satisfy the very first criterion of a seriously alphabetized lexicon of authorities. These names are arranged alphabetically by first name. Hilarious. When you look up great names in the encyclopedia or honors lists, do you go to the “A’s” to find Lincoln or the “S’s” for Freud? Of course not. But when you’re looking up the ones whose fame is presently at at ten or twelve minutes hoping for McLuhan’s fifteen, first names is their best and possibly only memory trigger.

I know I’m not up to the minute on celebrity gossip or movies and TV shows that are out for a weekend or a month and vanish, but I do watch a lot of streaming content, much of it new. If I can’t recognize more than 15 percent of the names on a list of purported celebrities, somebody is pulling somebody else’s leg.

And here’s that leg if you want it.
