The DNC Response to the Kirk Memorial
This is only a thought starter, because there are still a lot of balls in the air on this thing, but time’s a’wasting. The funeral is today, but the Memorial Event yesterday at Arizona U. Stadium is simply not something the out-of-power party can ignore or pretend never happened. This is what it looked like:
This wasn’t a Trump campaign rally at some basketball arena. This was a double decker football stadium, every seat filled, plus an arena across the street watching the proceedings on a Jumbotron, with still others lined up outside. Many speakers and one brand new star in the firmament, Charlie Kirk’s widow, who is no retiring house mouse. Except that she brought down the house in Phoenix and promised to keep going from here on forever.
Donald Trump. Which makes people believe, maybe for the first time, that MAGA
won’t end with him. That should scare Dems from here to Ireland and Wales.
There will have to be an organized response on a similar scale by the Democrats just to prove that they’re still in the political mix beyond ICE riots and assassination laughter.
There’s not a lot of planning that can be done yet. It’s a good bet that Erika Kirk is now the most popular woman in the country, and the star of the counter-event is going to have be a Democrat woman of stature. Of which there are not too many right now. The ones who are not widely suspected of being, well, dumb are not up to this particular assignment. That lets out Kamala, Jasmine, and AOC. Low-down snake-mean is out too. No Hillary, no Jill, no members of The Squad. They can’t be any of the network news interviewers who have been getting beaten like a drum for months by J.D. Vance, Marco Rubio, Stephen Miller, Pete Bessent, and the rest of a cabinet chosen as much for their debating skills as for their brains. Where does that leave the Dems? With one obvious candidate to take the lead in the new mass media environment, the one network news host who doesn’t interview anyone but friends and who never debates anyone at all. Rachel Maddow.
Why the planning must remain larval today. So far, Rachel Maddow has said virtually nothing about the. Charlie Kirk assassination. Fact:
She is scheduled to be on the air tonight. That will give us some sense of the direction in which the Counter-Kirk event must be developed and brought rapidly to fruition.
There needs to be a Stadium obviously, filled with cheering progressives. Two candidate venues came to me initially…
Columbia University Football Stadium
U Cal Berkeley Football Stadium
Both offer unique advantages. Columbia has a scintillating political history of its own, instrumental in the war-ending riots and letter bombs of the Vietnam era, and the brave building invasions and physical assaults in protest of Israel’s genocidal policies regarding Palestinian victims of Jew reprisals against a smallish massacre in Gaza. Columbia is also where Obama is reported to have gone to college, and its stadium has the kind of limited crowd capacity that might be necessary if the event is to be pulled off with no empty seats on short notice.
The Berkeley option is also attractive. It’s big, it’s in the other core location of progressive anti-capitalist, anti-fascist political activities. On top of that, the logistics might be facilitated by Governor Newsom's ability to order whatever political action funds he needs from the state’s one-party legislature.
Both New York and San Francisco offer an over abundance of talent for the design of the signs and T-shirts that must be worn by attendees. For example, some shrewd media hand might be able to deter a show of force like this at th event:
Actual lists of speakers and DNC-approved talking points, Jumbotron cheering and booing commands, and the necessary pop music groups required to attract audiences to Democrat events cannot even be speculated on till we know what Rachel Maddow has to say tonight. But we do have two points of emphasis we believe the event must regard as indispensable.
Maddow must be made to look more human, more lovable. That Erika is a hard act to follow. Here’s one example of the kind of vid content we regard as key for the event:
There’s just no replacement for romance, even if you’re leading with
your rational brainpower over their superstitious religiosity.
Second, Maddow has to be prepared to command that stage like the show biz professional she is. She learned a lot about production values during her television sabbatical on the Batwoman series. Time to put on those superpower moves and prove what progressives have to offer. Just to tease your imagination about the possibilities…
Inspiration piece for the speakers platform should be Super Bowl halftime shows.
That’s all we have at the moment. Forgive any errors that have crept into this. We’re working against a deadline. It was imperative we give you just enough to be thinking about when you tune into what may be a world-changing episode of the show hosted by the most brilliant political mind in the history of the Americas.
Come back later, when you’ve chewed it all over in your own heads, and then we’ll consider next steps…
