A Quick Snapshot of Where We Stand After 100 Days of Biden

Image
With an operatic crescendo of show trial justice in Minnesota, the first hundred days of Biden came to a dramatic close yesterday with the President and Maxine Waters arm-twisting the Chauvin jury into an oxymoron triple Guilty verdict that has already led to renewed street protesting by the left wing faithful. Dershowitz called the DC interference, “not just a thumb but an elbow on the scales of justice.” Surely, more arson and looting and vandalism will be on hand in days to come.  We’ll be talking about this and other “accomplishments” of the new administration, but for now we’ll offer only the following thumbnail view of this moment of the timeline. A quick glance at the graphic above should suffice to illustrate an odd phenomenon of the Hundred Days. Biden continues to receive honeymoon treatment in the approval ratings while almost all his new policies are receiving quite negative treatment among “Likely Voters.” Again, this a subject for another day, but it does make me won...

What my wife says about one of only 8 family pics of me

Image
The only picture of R. F. Laird and his dad still in existence. What my wife says...  “This photo is a story in several respects. A small picture of a big dining room at Thanksgiving in the WASP realm. Chandelier overhead, not visible. Father trying to smile, barely visible. Son not mouthing off but not content with dad either. So not smiling. Pretty sure he was working on Parade of Volumes at the time. He was still both “Jake and Colin” then. You know. The Reckless Twenties . “Maybe this is what White Privilege  looks like. I’m biased. Dad was handsome enough but I never liked him. Robert is beautiful though. No honest woman can deny it. He got into (and escaped from) Harvard on his brains. He got through Harvard on his looks and charm without going to class. The girls went for him but he always thought he was too young for them. He was. Spent a whole weekend with a Mount Holyoke goddess without laying a hand on her. He was waiting for her to make the first move. Child boy....

Something I think we could all use right now

Image
What we all wish we had. I’m about to write the saddest post of my life, the tale of Biden’s Hundred Days. It breaks my heart. My worst dreams come true. All my darkest predictions come true. I think much of the time I can’t go on as a writer. It’s that bad. Times like this are when we just pray we can find the heart of a champion to continue. Don’t know tonight if I can do that. Why I watched all three legs of Secretariat’sTriple Crown run. He liked starting last. Okay. Now, thanks to our sham president, we are all starting last. Time for me, no you, to find another tank of heart to go on.

The Silliest Psychobabble of All Time. Seriously.

Waldron and Croce. Huh?

Image
I got into a fight with my first publisher, Peter Workman. He objected to ‘R. F. Laird’,  thought it sounded too F. Scott Fitzgerald for his taste. So I laid down the law. Not the first time. I told him I was the third R. F. Laird in my family, and I was honoring all of them, Senior, Junior, and the Third. Should I have signed my work Robert Fisher Laird, III? He conceded.  Croce died ar 30. Good God. If I’d have died at 30, there would be no Boomer Bible. All that would be left is The Reckless Twenties, finally released last week. What’s the other name here? Arthur Waldron. The real luminary I knew at Harvard. He was a graduating senior when I was a freshman. He has his own wiki page. Horse Puckey. (Took me three tries to get past Autocorrect on that one) Why life is like what life has become. I don’t know who the wiki picture is a picture of. It’s not Arthur Waldron. Who looked then, without a total head rebuild, like Lincoln without the beard. Arresting for sure but ...

Newsmax “Conservative website” my ass.

Image
Anything in here about gas prices? Got gas three weeks ago at $2.65.9 per gallon. Got gas today at $2.93.9 per gallon. The Biden Administration cares about average Americans? Can you find gas prices on today’s Newsmax headlines? No. Actually, their idea of news hopeful and helpful to conservatives is boasting how much better they are doing in traffic than other so-called conservative websites, none of which has been conservative for a long long time. The great news is, they’re a winner since inauguration (unlike the rest of us), along with the lame deadsoft Parler and WhoMe (WhyMe?) or whatever that usufruct of FB skirmishers calls itself. Fox News and National Review have plunged in popularity (24-46 percent). Do tell. Newsmax actually thinks National Review became anti-Trump after the election. (Huh?) They don’t mention Breitbart. Rivals, you know. But I can assure them Breitbart is now spelling and punctuating better than a 5th grader, or some of them anyway, and they’re  as o...

Bernie “not comfortable” with Twitter Tsar

Image
Amazingly this actually got coverage in the mass media . Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) told New York Times podcast "The Ezra Klein Show" Tuesday he doesn't feel "particularly comfortable" with Twitter permanently banning former President Trump from the platform. Driving the news: In the interview, Sanders was asked about criticisms from some conservatives that liberals had become "too censorious." Sanders responded by saying Trump "is a racist, a sexist, a homophobe, a xenophobe, a pathological liar, an authoritarian, somebody who doesn't believe in the rule of law." [blah blah Trump blah… blah Trump blah] But, but, but: He added, "if you're asking me, do I feel particularly comfortable that the president, the then-president of the United States, could not express his views on Twitter? I don’t feel comfortable about it." Sanders noted that social media sites shouldn't allow "hate speech and conspiracy theories"...

Something new (that is, old) to think about

A post from our friends at Quantum 19: BAM: Builders of the Ancient Mysteries An excellent chance to learn from others who were intent on leaving a record for those who would have to start over in the future.

You see, I really thought I should have been Nathanael West

Image
Every English major (of my day, anyway) knows Nathanael West. Miss Lonelyhearts is probably the most famous 60-page novel ever written.  Day of the Locust,  his other remembered work, has been made into a movie most actors would like to have starred in or at least been in. I read his other, less famous books. ‘The Dream Life of Balso Snell.’ ‘The Dismantling of Lemuel Pitkin.’ ‘Cool Million.’ I identified with him somehow. Why? We weren’t very much alike. He hated his birth name, which was Nathan Weinstein. I loved my birth name. He desperately wanted to be some other person, maybe F. Scott Fitzgerald. I didn’t want to be Fitzgerald; I was already better by birth. I just wanted to be as good a writer as FSF was, which was a mountain I wanted to climb Nathan never could. So why would I bond with the poseur called “Nathanael West”? Three reasons. When I read his stuff I could see myself. He was floundering. He wanted to be different. New. I was floundering. Wanted to be differe...

Rasmussen Roulette — 500 of the same “Likely” voters still answering the phone and pulling that old old trigger

Because despite some concerns  they basically agree with Biden on all the political, character, and competency issues.

Struggling here. Why should I publish this mind-blowing book?

Image
I have a book underway. I can explain everything that’s happening right now and it’s very dark. It’s called Death of the Republic. A foreign publisher is interested and awaiting my manuscript after the hundred days are up. Personally, I think they’re just amused. Thing is, we could win this war if we weren’t all lazy selfish idiots. But we are. Been asking my wife is it worth hundreds of hours of publishing efforts. She thinks so. I’m not so sure. I tend to think people are no damn good.  In the old days I was the fastest gun . Now the gun has been consigned to the trunk . What do you think? Oh. That’s right. You don’t. Since I got squeeeeezed out of Facebook haven’t heard anything from any of you. Question answered. But think about this. My book is smarter than anything you’ve ever figured you were smart about f***ing anything.
